Rescue of 51 After Fire Aboard Marlin Queen Near Port Aransas
Port Aransas Texas AP reports shrimp boats rescued all five people who went overboard when the sports fishing craft Marlin Queen caught fire and exploded late Wednesday. The vessel burned, sank, and lay in 60 feet of water after a five hour trip about 6 1/2 miles offshore. Crewman McNatt suspects an electrical malfunction caused the blaze as passengers and crew evacuated into lifeboats and on nearby boats within 20 minutes. The White Marlin Enterprise vessel was valued over 80000 dollars and the search and rescue involved local shrimp boats in shark infested waters. Rev William Ervin was named president of Thurmont Catoctin Job Corps Community Relations Council to boost cooperation with the Job Corps camp and Thurmont officials.
