Frederick Physician Collects Antique Medical Relics
Dr. Gilcin F. Meadors Jr. leaves Damascus to take over Dr. L. R. Schoolman’s Frederick practice on Aug 15. His basement houses hundreds of medical books instruments and bottles. Born in Clarksdale Mississippi he earned a Tulane MD in 1940 and served as a Public Health Service senior surgeon en route to Johns Hopkins Johns Harvard and the National Heart Institute.

Dr Meadors guards a large collection of medical relics in his Frederick home. He used to bleed patients with a blade released by a spring and notes patients’ improvement. His historic office will serve emergencies on Toll House Avenue while the home hosts a varied display including Civil War kits, dental tools, witch doctor charms, a pre Columbian clay doll, and a 1735 Hippocrates book. The Meadors family also showcases music instruments, carpentry, and military items. Clyde the Siamese cat wanders amid the displays.
