Record of unusually high fruit prices in Frederick market
The Frederick market shows extraordinary prices for fresh fruit with demand outpacing supply. Oranges fetch 40 cents to over a dollar a dozen, lemons 38 to 60 cents a dozen, peaches 25 cents a pound, and cantaloupes 23 to 40 cents each. Prices for apples and watermelons are likewise high, with speculation that transport issues keep costs elevated.
