Philadelphia July 28. A marine shortage at the League Island navy yard raises fears of desertion as extra duties increase. Only 159 men including officers are in the barracks while the corps total nears 2100 with new arrivals idle after pay. Guards are now required every other day.
In Wilkesbarre Pennsylvania on July 28 Mrs Catherine Frank aged 60 and her year old granddaughter were lost during a mountain picnic.
