Traffic limits proposed on Shookstown Road and cab fare hike

The council voted 2 to 1 to limit traffic with barricades and possible one way traffic on Shookstown Road toward Rosemont Avenue. Alderman Grimes opposed the plan. A 30 percent cab fare increase was approved, with a $1.50 downtown fare rising to $2.00, though effective date was not announced. City officials hope higher revenue offsets insurance costs and attracts drivers. The meeting also discussed upfront fare collection, with verbal agreements allowed. Other actions include a $3,500 Maryland grant for home and East All Saints streets and returning policy talks on Harry Grove Stadium use to committee.
