Santa Barbara Brush Fire Destroys 200 Homes

Santa Barbara Calif AP gusty winds from the Santa Ynez Mountains fueled a fast moving brush fire in the northeast city area near the courthouse. Officials said at least 150 to 200 homes burned with losses estimated around 250000 each. Seventeen injured and many unaccounted for as residents fought the flames using garden hoses. Fire started in Los Padres National Forest and was deemed man caused, with containment not yet in sight.

Byron Hagerstown energy meeting probes public views

Citizens Nursing Home at capacity in county meeting

The Citizens Nursing Home is full with 120 patients as of Monday midnight. Medicaid covers 42 patients plus 35 in the skilled category, with 3 on Medicare, 18 private pay and two beds held for medical leave. One bed remains unoccupied though census shows full capacity. July admissions totaled seven with six regular and one private pay. Waiting list shows 99 people, including 43 county and 34 out of county residents, plus 22 on hold. Officials expect worsening conditions and noted a successful relicensing inspection with minor paperwork issues. The board announced committee appointments and ex officio members to oversee operations.
