D Charles Winebrewer of the State Roads Commission told the Board of Aldermen at a special session that plans are under review to improve Market and Patrick streets as part of the state arterial road system. A city committee will confer with the Commission in Baltimore next Thursday to arrange work for the city. Health Officer Ira J. McCurdy urged action against illegal house drain connections and recommended weed removal from city property. The board adjourned after other matters.
The Board of Election Supervisors led by president Lee Hanneberger appointed precinct judges and clerks for the upcoming election. Most incumbents were reappointed with a few new officials named. A primary will decide contests for U.S. Senate and the Sixth District Congressional seat. The date must fall between September 8 and 16 with party chairs coordinating.
The funeral for George Abram Victor Shaf was held at St Luke's Lutheran Church Fengaville on Wednesday July 20 at 3 pm with Rev Robert L Long officiating. Pallbearers included Lee Ranneverger C Xowton Trundle William S Hargett William D Zimmerman George W Summers and W Jacob Fulmer. Burial followed in the adjacent cemetery. M R Etchison and Son were the funeral directors.
