French troops attacked German field forts along the Vosges front near Ban de Sapt and La Fontenelle Taunois, sweeping German trenches in a night action. In Coatesville Pennsylvania on a Saturday Mary Hess wife of farmer John Hess reported she paid a gypsy queen six jars of cherries six live chickens and 12 dollars and 20 cents after a fortune telling. She claimed the gypsy promised to refund after three wishes. Hess wife testified and a warrant issued for Bessie Wells was dropped when Hess paid 12.20 plus costs and chicken value.

Three ships sunk after battle with British craft
German submarines resumed actions in British waters sinking a French steamer and four British trawlers off Cape Wrath. Danae was torpedoed by two subs. one submarine reportedly destroyed by bombs and gunfire from trawlers. All crews were saved.
