Activist jailed for contempt in hunter harassment case near Poolesville
Gaithersburg resident Heidi Prescott will serve 15 days in Montgomery County Detention Center after refusing to pay a $500 fine for harassing hunters at the McKee Beshers Wildlife Management Area during deer season. District Judge Hawin Collier said the sentence enforced fine collection and equal treatment if payment is chosen. Prescott, national outreach director for the Fund for Animals, argued the fine violated her First Amendment rights and that her protests targeted hunter cruelty, not individuals.
