Recycling push lifts Frederick County beyond state mandate
Frederick County surpassed the 20 percent recycling target with a 26 percent rate in 1983 driven by a public private partnership with the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce. Over 34,000 homes participate, 17,000 added in April, with residents urged to continue and expand recycling through grass cycling and precycling to reduce waste and costs.

Local volunteers build Project House for low income family
Project House aims to fund a 1,100 square foot two story home with three bedrooms using a $50,000 bank loan and a state deferred no-interest loan. State grant funds will also back two additional houses as volunteers supply labor and donated materials. Julius Pellegrino and Celie Pellegrino joined the Saturday build in Lake Singapore while Jennifer Banach and Emily Banach assisted from James Madison University. Gideon Korrell, 16, said he volunteers to enjoy building. Applications can be sent to Ray Rother at Central Maryland Catholic Charities in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
