Dems predict failure of GOPs latest tax cuts
Washington AP. House Democratic leaders say Reagan’s tax cut proposal will fail as it offers little help to families earning under 50 000. Reagan argues his plan cuts taxes over three years versus two and keeps taxes lower. Rostenkowski concedes the game of one upmanship but says the core issue is how Congress helps the American family.

A 36-year-old Dutch patient, in critical condition, remains alive only with an experimental artificial heart implanted by Dr. Denton A. Cooley after his own heart failed post bypass surgery. FDA says approval should have been sought before use. Cooley defends the action, noting the patient would have died otherwise. The device aims to bridge to a donor heart.
