Bertha Adkins Sees Woman Could Be Postmaster General
Bertha Adkins, assistant to the Republican National Committee chair, says the next cabinet post a woman could hold is Postmaster General, with mention of possible future Agriculture Secretary. She notes Eisenhower said a woman could handle the presidency but doubted they would seek it. Critics at the Post Office oppose a female chief. others see women as qualified in personnel or business roles. Only two women have led a U.S. cabinet, Frances Perkins and Mrs Hobby, with Adkins favoring Health, Education, and Welfare as a natural future for a woman.
