Flapper Is Only A Memory Now
In a July 24 NEA dispatch Marian Hale notes the modern flapper has faded in appearance and manners. Fashion forecasts for fall and winter emphasize long skirts, draperies, bustles, lace, fur trim, and rich fabrics to create a ladylike silhouette, with velvet and moire gowns, shadow oval necklines, and elaborate wraps replacing the earlier flapper style. Fathers may long for the former plain girl as wealthier dress defines the era.
