Atlas search spurs marrow donor drive nationwide
Region Search yielded no perfect match for Allison Atlas but sparked a national donor drive. Friends of Allison collected blood samples from about 49,400 volunteers in the United States and 600 in Israel, raising $3 million with support from figures like Dustin Hoffman. The national register grew from 57,000 to over 150,000 names. Allison remains without a perfect donor while her mother is prepared for a transplant.
