Forecast Of Food Prices Varies By Region
New York July 23 Associated Press forecast on many food items shows mixed views. Some large retailers expect modest price reductions for canned and packaged goods as inventories remain high, while others report steady sales and no cuts. Industry officials note plentiful coffee and sugar, with possible adjustments as replacements cost gaps narrow. Prices may rise due to military demand, though overall supplies remain ample from strong production.

Army to draw replacements from area staffs for Korea
Washington says about half Korea replacements in coming months will come from the administrative and training staffs of six U. S. Army areas. The 31st and 47th National Guard Divisions will provide additional replacements as training continues at Fort Jackson and Camp Rucker. The move targets a 30,000 man monthly replacement goal over the next three months, with a July and August levy of 29,000 and a September third levy planned. National Guard units and guardsmen are already serving in Korea. The 31st Division, from Alabama and Mississippi, now has 11,000 added since activation. The 47th Division, from Minnesota and North Dakota, has about 13,000 added.
