Miss Firor depicts Chinese upheaval and a missionary’s escape
In a June 1920 letter from Chikungshan, Miss Marion Firor describes a violent revolution near Lakeside and Yochow. She recounts murder of Rev. W. A Belmert, attacks on girls, looting, and forced evacuations as soldiers ransack towns. Firor chronicles fleeing with students, aid from foreign officials, and the perilous journeys to Hankow aboard gunboats amid bombardment and storms. She urges readers to remain calm and prays for swift return to Yochow.
