Training program profits from overseas workers, under investigation
A Baltimore Sun report alleges a 40-year federal training program run by USA-IT in Greenbelt quietly placed Eastern European and Latin American workers on U S construction sites. Contractors paid USA-IT $15 per hour while workers earned near minimum wage, with many profits skimmed through insurance, tools, transportation and housing charges. The program, tied to a bank fraud convict, faces investigations by the State Department and U S Immigration and Naturalization Service, and ordinary work was reportedly prohibited by the visa framework.
