Chicago Sox Down Cards in Hall of Fame Trophy Game

The Chicago White Sox exploded for eight runs in the third inning to rout the St. Louis Cardinals 13 to 4 at Doubleday Field. Kim Derrington limited the Cards to late scoring as Chicago leveled the series at eight wins apiece with strong hitting from Miller Mizello and others. The game featured rain interruptions but finished without incident.

Postponed Softball Games Rescheduled by City Twilight League

The City Twilight Softball League released makeup dates for postponed games to be played at the Upper diamond of Baker Park at 6 p.m. Remaining matchups include Walkersville vs Ballenger on July 30 and Urbana hosting Shipley's today with top pitchers Lenhart and Keltne in a pivotal race for first place.

Fighter Courchesne Scraps South American Bout After Ring Spasm

In New York Bobby Courchesne, a 200 pound lightweight, suffered a ring cramp between rounds eight and nine causing a forfeit by knock out. His manager Pat Bartlett halted the Caracas date and explained the heat in the ring reached about 110 degrees. Promoter Emil Lence forecasts a $500000 gate at the Polo Grounds for the Floyd Patterson Hurricane Jackson heavyweight title bout on July 29. About $150000 in sales already. 25,000 expected crowd. Braddock Heights Imposes Water Ban Citywide

Braddock Heights Water Company announced an immediate ban on nonessential water use including lawn sprinkling, garden watering and car washing. Spokesman Lloyd Fogie said the community relies on two wells and three springs, with all supply in use, and the ban lasts until conditions improve.
