A Syrian man with leprosy, from Elkins West Virginia, was removed from a Philadelphia box car by health authorities. He traveled by freight to Baltimore and possibly back toward West Virginia as officials ordered the car detached from the train and labeled for quarantine.
Russell Sage, near 90, died at his Lawrence Long Island country home Cedarcroft from heart failure due to old age complications. The financier, born August 4, 1816 in Verona Oneida County, rose from a grocer’s errand boy to multimillionaire and Wall Street pioneer closely tied to Jay Gould. Funeral set for West Presbyterian Church in Manhattan with executors Mrs Sage and Colonel Slocum.
