Soviet boy who chose America has no regrets
Five years after Walter Polovchak, then 12, sparked an international custody dispute by refusing to return to Ukraine, now 17 he says he misses his parents but has no regrets about staying in the United States. He loves America, plans to seek citizenship, and leads a largely American life while courts consider his parental rights. He works part time, enjoys Disney World and rock music, attends summer school, and remains under U.S. guardianship though his status is unsettled.
