Court battle over P O closure unlikely in Frederick

Frederick Mayor Ronald N. Young said the city probably will not sue the U S Postal Service to save the old post office. He noted the service met its obligations and the community appears tired of the dispute. Demolition was halted for a missing city permit from the Historic District Commission. A special HDC hearing on August will decide the permit. If approved, the next step is a city demolition permit. Young said the case likely will not go to court unless Washington intervenes and parking is deemed non critical. He avoided predicting union talks for city police and noted no direct contact yet. In a separate meeting, HDC approved facade work for 117 S. Market St. and discussed transom window treatment.
