Conservation Talk By Maryland Soil Official To Frederick Kiwanis
Paul M. Galbraith assistant soil conservationist for Maryland spoke to the Kiwanis Club of Frederick at the Francis Scott Key Hotel on the need to conserve land and water. He warned population growth will require more food and fibers and noted soil erosion has thinned topsoil from fourteen inches to just a few inches in places. He traced conservation thinking from Washington and Jefferson through Roosevelt, cited the creation of soil conservation districts now numbering 24 in Maryland, and stressed using technical knowledge to manage soil types for crops pastures woodlands and wildlife.
