Veterans group urges Truman to revoke war order on race policy
The American Veterans Committee urged President Truman to withdraw last week’s War Department order. National chair Charles G. Bolle said the suspension, tied to Army racial limits, insults qualified Negro soldiers. The Army claimed enlistments reflect civilian ratios, about 5 to 1, not color.
