Humorous And Sad Questions Posed For Draft Board Clerks
The Frederick County draft board faces odd and pointed inquiries from local residents as lines of questions mix humor with sorrow. Wives seek deferments for relatives, while a worried mother asks how to spare her husband. others submit humorous self diagnoses, from flat feet to bald heads. A bridegroom-to-be is curious if he can draw against his first pay, and a newlywed defense worker is killed by an auto before induction. A farmer asks to let his son replace him, and mothers complain you take the best son, not the one they can handle. A prized hog prompts the final implausible query: can the applicant leave the pig with the board to avoid slaughter?
