Miss Matearetta Hitner of Pottstown, heiress to part of the Hitner estate, died by suicide in a New York hotel after months of melancholia following her mother's death. She had been treated in a private sanitarium and was known for charitable work aiding the poor in Pottstown.

Reading Pa July 22 Mrs Mary B A M Grant of Douglassville widow of the late Colonel M H Messchert files her will. Springfield Ohio July 22 a father David Oglesbee shot at his fourteen year old son Clarence after he took a piece of pie against his wishes. The boy was struck in the neck shoulder and hip by about fifty pellets but not critically hurt. Deputy Sheriff Jumble arrested the father.
