Miss Adkins Nominated Undersecretary of Health
Washington IAP President Eisenhower named Bertha S. Adkins, longtime assistant chairwoman of the Republican National Committee, to be undersecretary of health education and welfare. She would replace Dr. John A. Perkins who resigned March 1 to return to the presidency of the University of Deir re. PARIS AP Soviet sources say Moscow may station troops in Syria at Arab Republic summit. Adkins, a Salisbury Maryland native, maintains a home there. The summit result may not yield a Middle East arrangement, with Krushchev’s last summit call. Soviet informants say the U.S. troop move into Lebanon signals a major shift, questioning whether the U.S. has abandoned diplomacy for force. Khrushchev may seek a direct talk with Eisenhower to probe the decision.
