One Killed Three Hurt In Wreck Near Plane No 4
A Baltimore and Ohio railroad engineer died after a wreck on the old main freight line near Plane No 4. Charles H. Voyce, 58, was scalded to death en route to Frederick City Hospital. Fireman Thomas J. Hiers, 39, was critically injured with an amputated arm and brain concussion. Two brakemen, Clarence O. Lyle, 22, and Samuel G. Davis, 35, were injured. Davis had a fractured ankle. Three trains involved. the line was blocked, with repair crews expected to reopen by night.

Buffer Zone Created To Save Gasoline
The War Production Board announced a buffer zone of 162 counties west of the eastern seaboard rationing area. Gasoline deliveries will be cut 25 percent starting at 12:01 a.m. Eastern War Time Wednesday to prevent cross-boundary fueling. Seven western New York counties Niagara Erie Orleans Genesee Wyoming Monroe Livingston will see a 33 1 3 percent cut immediately, and on August 22 they join the buffer zone. The zone covers 86 western New York counties plus 76 in eastern Tennessee Alabama and western Florida, extending curtailment previously used in winter. The service station curfew restricting hours to 12 hours daily and 72 weekly is extended across the buffer zone.

A heavy trailer truck rammed the end of a bus carrying women to a freezing plant near Keller Virginia killing five and injuring many. The crash on Route 13 left 13 plus hospitalized at Nassawadox hospital with more treated at the scene. Names of the five dead were Muriel Bull Nina Justis Mae Dix Sally Evans and Mrs Lucy Mears.
