Jefferson District Sanitary District approved in Frederick County

The Frederick County Sanitary Commission approved plans for a Jefferson District sanitary district after a feasibility study by Eugene Y. Hsi. The project costs about 332000 with 164 upfront sewer-house connections and annual charges of 128 for a typical 100 front foot lot. The county would cover 179000, with final details due in six months and hearings possible if 10 or more homeowners object.

Marines Hold Off North Vietnamese Attack Near Saigon

In a four hour stand near the 7th Parallel two Marine platoons repelled waves of North Vietnamese troops while supporting withdrawal of their battalion. About 500 enemy dead or wounded were reported as Marines suffered heavy casualties. Air and artillery strikes, plus napalm, drove off the attackers. The fight marked the fiercest action of Operation Hastings as Marines and South Vietnamese forces moved into the mountains 400 miles northeast of Saigon in pursuit of a pressed division.

North Vietnamese envoy says captured pilots to face war crime trials

Paris based dispatch reports from Peking quote North Vietnamese ambassador Tran Du Vinh saying U.S. pilots captured over Vietnam will be tried as war criminals. He states Hanoi did not regard them as POWs under the Geneva Convention and did not indicate trial dates. The fate of the pilots would be left to the Vietnamese people.
