Lobster ranch planned on edge of desert
Rex Infanger and Roger Mickelsen, BYU researchers, aim to build a solar heated lobster ranch on land near Springville Utah, 800 miles from the ocean. They would raise one lobster per cage in artificial salt water, using a patented system, to supply a steady local supply and cut freight costs for restaurants.

Domestic lobsters grown in Utah eyed as future venture
Mickelsen and Infanger plan breeding lobsters on Utah farms with Arizona Fuels Corp backing. A $700,000 pilot plant funded by the company was withdrawn as sponsorship moved elsewhere. They seek new financial support, noting Utah’s ready markets in Salt Lake City and Las Vegas and a favorable legal climate for lobster farming. On Nov 15, 1777, Congress approved the Articles of Confederation.
