Scenic Road Turn-Outs Approved by Maryland Roads Commission
Baltimore July 27 The Maryland State Roads Commission accepts a proposal from the Confederation of Western Maryland Communities to build scenic highway turn-outs in mountainous areas. The commission rejects creating roadside recreational camps due to lack of authority while considering erosion control and billboard zoning suggested by the group. The Confederation, led by James H. Gambrill Jr of Frederick, pushes for regular tree planting and advertising Maryland scenery by a state agency. Four or five car spaces per turnout are planned at scenic spots at a nominal cost.
