In Puitapevenia July 18 Dr John B Dester surgeon at the Philadelphia performed a rare esophagotomy to free four false teeth lodged in John Cavanaugh’s throat. Cavanaugh, an intemperate man, was admitted to the almshouse two weeks ago after obstruction made swallowing solids and liquids painful. The throat was opened about four inches down, the teeth removed and the wound sewn. He improved at once though still in danger. It was the first such operation in Philadelphia and the second authenticated case in the U S.
