County hiring freeze tested by budget limits and requests
Sweadner warns as Commissioner Gail Bowerman critiques the randomness of the hiring freeze while stressing bottom line realities. The freeze affects departments with staff leaving for health, retirement, or other jobs, and prompts selective approvals such as two of three requests from the State's Attorney's Office for admin help and a library hire for part time pages at about 137 dollars weekly. IDPA's request to fill a seven month vacancy was denied, despite internal funding plans, risking slower processing for the FCC and school system due to the missing analyst.
