Hood College student catalogs 19th century wedding gowns

Hood College junior Mary Beth Keller works with the Historical Society of Frederick County textile collection under curators and a college advisor. The second floor display features three wedding gowns from the late 19th and early 20th centuries arranged by Keller, with assistance from Hood College Home Economics.

Hummel Figurine Artist at German Alps Festival

Gunther Neubauer of Goebel Porzellan Fabrik will demonstrate painting Hummel porcelain July 24 28 and 30 at the German Alps Festival in Hunter New York. The festival runs July 19 to August 6 with a German Alps Festival Store featuring many Hummel pieces including a 29 inch Happy Wanderer and daily film on the factory.

Nursing Center Celebrates July Fourth Picnic

Frederick Nursing Center held a Fourth of July picnic for residents with traditional holiday foods and accordion songs. Over 100 residents and families enjoyed the performance while staff joined in dancing and singing. The event was organized and sponsored by the auxiliary.

Zonta Club hosts three summer picnics with world themes

Frederick Zonta Club celebrates an international summer with three theme picnics. June featured American style fare at Buckeystown with Jane Speer as host. July hosts Einen Deutschen Abend in Middletown with Elizabeth Remsburg. August plans a Hawaiian Luau at Ethel Loeb's home. Proceeds support Zonta and Amelia Earhart projects.

Irish dancing theme at Christian Women's Club luncheon

The Christian Women's Club invites area women to a July luncheon at Watson's Family Restaurant featuring Irish dancing by Angela Beaton of Frederick, eight, with teachers Russell and Millie Beaton. Music by Ginny Scherer and Nancy Nevans will accompany the program. Reservations and nursery care are available through Jane Ward or Virginia Coblentz, with nursery at Trinity Methodist Church and a small charge for child care.

Frederick Bridge Club Winners and Schedule at Fort Detrick

The Frederick Bridge Club held a member novice event with wins by David Sweitzer and Patricia Yost among others. Regular North-South winners included Manuel Weinberg and Michael Myers. East-West top pair Kelly March and William Prensky. A weekly game is set for 7 15 p.m. at Fort Detrick.
