Peace negotiations stall as 30,000 more rail workers threaten walkout this week. 8,000 stationary firemen and oilers join shopmen. union leaders report deadlock while White House discusses a "specific" program to end coal and rail strikes amid looming action.
Approximately 125 members of the American Federation of Railway Workers on the New York Central lines went on strike today over a wage reduction. About 150 members of the Stationary Engineers Firemen and Oilers’ Union struck at ten o’clock this morning, according to the union’s business agents.
Cincinnati July 17 notices posted across the Big Four Rail Road system announce cancellation of all freight handling contracts as soon as legally permissible. General manager E M Costin confirmed the move and said it would be implemented promptly.

Police court records show a busy weekend with many drunk and disorderly arrests on All Saints street. Names include E. E. Heffner Raymond Fields Lewis Engle sire Perry Grove Joseph Craig John Thomas Daisy Rollins Sylvester Jeffries and Mary Thomas. Automobile cases involve Eaton Snarr Burgess and Edith Coe with fines and collateral set or forfeited.
The Methodist Episcopal Sunday School reported 644 attendees at yesterday’s morning service with Miss Alliene Thomas performing a solo. Open air services begin next Sunday evening at 6 30 on the Boys High School grounds with a band concert at 7 24 and Rev Wallace M Brashears of Clarksburg delivering the address. Frederick residents of all creeds are invited.
In Chicopee Massachusetts July 17 a flood from Langewelds Dam and another dam caused twenty million gallons to surge through the Williamsett district. Homes and businesses along Chicopee street were submerged above first floors and residents fled to upper levels for safety. No lives were reported.
Reports from Brunswick say weekend passed calmly amid a Baltimore and Ohio strike. About 35 strik ebreakers were reportedly moved toward the mountains. several men from Frederick filled vacant jobs, with sheriffs and extra deputies patrolling to maintain order. Women and the Ladies Auxiliary contributed to striker relief as train crews aided strikers.
Frederick coal dealers report empty bins due to a prolonged miners strike and uncertain outlook. Some dealers have limited pea or soft coal and prices hold steady from spring, while others have none on hand. Homeowners speculate on winter warmth, with some stockpiling wood as the strike may drag on.
Frederick county residents are urged to attend the 33rd annual reunion of the Reformed Churches of Maryland Pennsylvania Virginia West Virginia and the District of Columbia at Pen Mar next Thursday about 3000 people from the district are expected. York secretary Paul F Schminke issued the program featuring a male quartet of Yorkers and a former Yorker. Rev Murray E Ness Merle Lehman Emory Lehman Harold Lehman and Miss Margaret McElwain will perform with Rev Dr Abner S DeChant in charge of graduates gathering. Franklin and Marshall professor H M Klein will be principal speaker speaking on The League of Youth. Program begins 1 30 p m with Pen Mar orchestra instrumental prelude. The assembly will sing The Whole Wide World and Jesus I Live to Thee with Psalm 24 responsive reading following. The quartet will perform The Lord Is My Light Nearer My God To Thee and Some Blessed Day before Klein's address.
County wide interest grows for the League of Women Voters as a large meeting is set for July 25 at Winchester Hall at 2 30. A constitution drafted by committees from Frederick city and county will be submitted. The group emphasizes education in citizenship and improved legislation, and remains nonpartisan. The invitation extends to all women and to men as well.
Wellsburg West Virginia July 17 deputies and state police hunted for bodies after an attack on the Richland Coal Cliftonville mine 10 miles from Wellsburg. Sheriff H H Duvall and others were killed as the non union strike turned into a gun battle with the mob.
New York July 17. Some early selling came from interior sources but overall interest waned. Oils fell in Crude Products at western and southwestern centers. Steels and equipments gained one to two points while rails showed irregularity. Call money opened at three percent. closing was irregular with about 473 0 shares traded. Country home in Hansonville sold by Cramer and Stauffer to Mortimer A. Smith and wife. Gray couple to spend fall and winter in California.
The Hagerstown Kiwanis Club will visit Frederick Kiwanis for a baseball game at the Fairgrounds tomorrow afternoon. The game moved from Hagerstown due to diamond access. Hagerstown guests arrive around 3:20 p.m. The local luncheon is rescheduled to 6:30 p.m. at Wayside Inn to entertain the visitors.
Rev John George Crawford formerly of Frederick was ordained to the priesthood at the Church of the Ascension Wakefield Rhode Island with Bishop James DeWolf Perry officiating. Visiting clergy included Lester Bradner Simon Blinn-Blount H M Saville Seymour and others. Crawford’s career spanned General Electric Westinghouse and Western Electric roles before ministry. He previously served in Maryland and East Greenwich and led St John the Divine Chapel Saunderstown.
Andrew Hawkins colored of Amesville was granted parole from the Maryland House of Correction by Governor Ritchie on application of Alban M. Wood. Hawkins was convicted in September 1921 of larceny and sentenced to 18 months in the cat. He has a wife and six children.
The United Brethren and Sunday school picnic is set for Thursday August at Brad dock Heights after July twenty-fifth ground conflicts. Committees named for transportation refreshments and program arrangements. The Christian Endeavor Society will hold an open air meeting next Sunday evening at 630 on Washington Street School grounds with instrumental music singing and several addresses. Otterbein Guild meets at Harry Free’s Rocky Springs home and car departure is 7 30.
