The Hildegarde, an 1874 Teakwood royal pleasure craft built for the Prince of Wales, is being cut into souvenirs on the Hackensack river after owner Frank St. Long bought her in 1905 for about 7000 dollars. Pieces including a Chinese teakwood keel segment and the king’s stateroom will enter Hackensack homes and local venues, with a steering wheel adorning the Hackensack Golf Club cafe. The vessel, 127 feet overall, changed hands through George Gould and Senator Whitlock before Blake Hall. its deep 15-foot keel limited channel access but did not stop its storied renovations.
