Aquaculture Plan Promises Food From Water Gardens

Dr. Tom Hopkins and Dr. Ann Stewart of Agra Inc showcased a self contained aquaculture system at Lilypens Water Gardens. A six foot tank with plants and fish can yield 1000 pounds of food yearly, using solar power filtration and bacteria to recycle nutrients. The system targets backyard gardeners, restaurateurs and inner city projects, with Baltimore and Washington DC area deployments planned.

Alzheimer's support group forming in Western Maryland

A community effort in Western Maryland forms an Alzheimer's disease support group for families and caregivers. Led by Carole Walker of HomeCall in Frederick, the group aims to educate, share coping strategies, and study disease causes with professionals. An initial meeting is tentatively set for Wednesday July 18 at First Christian Church in Hagerstown at 7 p.m. ADRDA Baltimore Central Md chapter president Glenn Kirkland will speak to outline care options and resources.
