Heat caused concrete under the Holter Road surface to rise about a foot prompting seven Frederick County highway workers to perform temporary repairs near Md. 180. Bill Routzahn led the crew while Nelson Burns described a near loss of control for his dump truck and a driver hitting a plastic marker as a car went airborne.

Judge orders man to marry girlfriend

Brunswick man injured in one car crash

Maryland State Police said William Michael Harper of 208 A Street Brunswick was injured in a one car crash on Md 340 near South Mountain Road around 1 am He drove off the road struck a guardrail and the car skidded onto the guardrail for about 40 yards A state police helicopter aided the scene and Md 340 was closed for about an hour while debris was cleared and a possible passenger searched He was taken to Washington County Hospital and listed in fair condition with head injuries

Grand jury returns several indictments in Frederick County

Frederick County grand jury handed up multiple indictments Friday on drugs and white collar crimes. State's Attorney Scott Rolie said the 23 member panel heard presentments. indictments were ordered sealed until defendants are picked up by law enforcement. Most indictments are expected to be served early next week, with defendants to appear for bail hearings in circuit court.

News-Post Dropped From Civil Suit Over ATM Photo

The Frederick News-Post is removed as a defendant in a suit alleging misidentification of Rachel Suzanne Garry of Woodsboro. Garry sues Farmers and Mechanics National Bank of Frederick and Chevy Chase Bank of Chevy Chase for negligence after an ATM photo was published. Frederick city is named for releasing the image. damages against the News-Post were dismissed without prejudice. Chevy Chase Bank denies wrongdoing through counsel.

Man receives two life terms in White House staff assault case

A Clinton man, Earl McKnight, 20, was sentenced to two life terms plus 20 years for sexually assaulting a White House staff member after a vice president Christmas party. He already serves two consecutive life terms plus 150 years. Judge Richard Sothoron imposed the new sentence in Upper Marlboro.
