Deliberations Continue on Refugee Transfers

Conflicting reports from Washington concern moving Cuban refugees to Bainbridge Naval Training Center in Port Deposit Maryland. White House sources cite estimated costs of 90 000 per refugee for about 900 Cubans from Fort Chaffee Arkansas, possibly ruling out Bainbridge, while another report still lists the base high on the government's site. Maryland officials protest and expect no decision before Thursday. Maryland Rep Boyden Dyson notes cabinet discussions included relocation talks and estimates it would cost 41 million to make Bainbridge habitable since its 1973 abandonment. Dyson says officials seem far from an announcement and remains encouraged by recent meetings.
