A 16 year old Frederick boy sustained cuts to the right leg and arm after a motorcycle accident near Gambrill Park at 3 20 p m. The bike owner, Daniel Frederick Barrick, was a passenger and uninjured. The incident also notes a later arrest for operating without a license and a separate minor collision on Rt 806 near Evergreen Point.
Frederick County Commissioners will hold a public hearing Wednesday in the Winchester Room at 10 a.m. to consider a proposed mobile home ordinance creating a Mobile Home Development district and restricting single mobile homes to specific zones in Agricultural and Conservation districts. The plan includes allowances for replacements in some districts and marks a major step in county zoning, with developers supporting the proposal.
The Frederick Planning and Zoning Commission approved a 128 acre development west of Carroll Creek with conditions for at least five acres of park or recreation land in each area. The plan divides into 13.1 acres R-3, 8.1 acres B-0, 29.9 acres R-4, and 26.2 acres R-3, with current zoning R-4 and R-2. The project features a service road, varied housing types, office space, and a commercial zone along US 40, with six areas served by the creek.
Cambodian infantry scaled Mt Kim Rom and recaptured key areas 50 miles west of Phnom Penh. A rival force of about 1000 Viet Cong and North Vietnamese struck a Cambodian battalion HQ 25 miles south of Kim Rom, causing heavy casualties. The fighting imperiled Highway 4 and threatened Kompong Som. Meanwhile in Vietnam, U S Command in Saigon deactivated two air force squadrons as part of troop reductions. Government forces claimed 47 Viet Cong killed south of Saigon, while U S troops reported six paratroopers killed west of Hue.
Frederick County officials consider purchasing about 200 acres in the Graceham Creagerstown area for a landfill as part of a Beavin Company solid waste study. The plan envisions three sites, including near Middletown and the Reids Ford Road facility, to meet needs for at least 20 years.
Frederick’s Rainbow Daze festival runs July 23 to 25 across seven color blocks Red Green Yellow Orange Navy Blue Purple Light Blue. Stores decorate their blocks and offer color based contests with prizes of 30 20 and 10 dollars plus a booby prize. Participants bring unusual items or costumes to win. Bids for two new elementary schools, Green Valley and Myersville, are to be opened at 4 p.m. Thursday by the Board of Education. Architects Bushey and Burrey said the projects, estimated near 2 million dollars, attracted good bidder interest. Board staffer Gilbert Newby noted continued bidding is welcome.
The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be in Frederick at the Evangelical Lutheran Church on Church Street from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Donors with appointments are urged to keep them, while walk-ins are welcome. The drive seeks all blood types, especially negatives, due to shortages. One pint earns a year of coverage for the donor and immediate family. Eligibility includes health, 18 or older, and 110 pounds. new state law allows 18 to 21-year-olds to donate without parental permission. A doctor oversees donations.

A Canadian freighter loaded with pig iron and 21 people struck a shoal in the St Lawrence Seaway near Massena New York and sank within minutes. Nine feared drowned, seven bodies recovered. The 359 foot Eastcliffe Hall captain drowned. Survivors say life boats were swept away as the ship went down. Two women and two children were among those lost.
A 24 hour fire log records calls including a tree fire on Old Annapolis Road at 5:57 p.m. and a smoke investigation on Route 26 at 6:29 p.m. Volunteer responders from Libertytown and Graceham attended brush and auto fires on Grove Hill Road and Route 77.
