Three Negroes Hurt In Wreck Near Burkittsville
Early today at about 2 a m on Route 17 two miles south of Burkittsville a light pickup overturned after failing a sharp curve. Three passengers James Jackson Irving Lyles and George Moore were taken to Frederick City Hospital in satisfactory condition with injuries including a possible skull fracture and a broken leg. The driver Preston Paterson faced no charges according to Trooper William Houck who investigated.

Four Die In Standard Oil Plant Blast at Waynesville
A early morning explosion at the Standard Oil Company plant in Waynesville North Carolina killed four people and injured eight others. The blast destroyed the plant and two nearby houses and damaged three more. Fire Chief L L Kerly and plant manager W L Hardin were among the injured. Mrs Andrew Caldwell and her two children died in a nearby home. An unidentified oil truck driver was missing. The blast occurred at 3 30 a m during unloading of a large gasoline transport. Investigations suggest a hose leak ignited about 40 000 gallons of gasoline.

Washington July 14 conference committee members reported differences on all but one issue in the 680 million dollar appropriations bill and prepared to send to both houses a contested amendment. It would authorize up to 125 million bushels of wheat for livestock feed at about 68 cents a bushel and include a proposal to let governments hold wheat at full parity with corn. If accepted by the House, senators expect strong opposition in the Senate where parity is set near 83 to 85 cents. The core dispute remains the provision Roosevelt demanded to ensure low feed prices to spur meat and dairy production for military and civilian use.
