Eight city and county taverns lose licenses for five days each after gambling convictions. Commissioner Myers warned licensees that while there was no Alcoholic Beverage law violation, State Law violations warranted action. Nine owners were involved. one died before suspension. Weekend Rain Threat Was Only A Teaser
Weekend weather teased residents with light showers and a possible downpour. Official rainfall at the airport totaled .03 inches for the weekend, with traces Saturday and .02 Sunday evening, plus .01 early Monday. Forecaster says no rain is expected early this week as temperatures reach the upper 80s then 50s to 60s. Sunday's high was 81, low 62. Saturday peak 37 with a 62 low. A high of 79 was recorded later at the airport weather station. Meanwhile two brothers were burned when their 24 foot cabin cruiser exploded and caught fire in the Susquehanna River near Port Deposit. Lloyd Brandt and James Brandt, ages 27 and 28, suffered first and second degree burns. three other aboard escaped serious injury. All five were rescued by nearby boats.

Officer Is Suspended Over Breakins Warrant Out
A city policeman Russell L Potts age 27 is named in warrants prepared by the state attorney office for breaking and entering Investors Loan of Frederick Inc South Market street on July 11 and Beneficial Finance Company East Patrick street in April He was caught in the act by Chief Charles V Main and Detective Sergeant Pacman Boone Potts is suspended from the force for conduct unbecoming an officer.

Juvenile arson case after big Baltimore store fire
A juvenile petition will be filed against a boy and two others aged 10 and 15 for starting a four alarm fire at the St Vincent de Paul Society store in Baltimore. Police say the 9 year old dropped burning paper and used it to light his way. The trio also faces theft charges for stealing a bicycle before the blaze. Fire damaged the store on three floors and crews recovered the bicycle at the 15 year old's home. The youths were released to their parents after questioning and charges will go to juvenile authorities.

Frederick motorists urged to avoid left turns at key DC intersection
Washington highway officials said southbound left turns from Wisconsin avenue into Massachusetts avenue northwest will be banned to relieve congestion. The left turn will shift to Wisconsin and Garfield streets, with Garfield Street made eastbound only.

Juvenile Jurisdiction Waived In Shooting Case

Cycle Hits Car and Boy Unhurt in City Accidents
A seven year old boy pushed his bicycle into a northbound Broadway car driven by Mrs Olive C Smith. The boy was not injured and the bicycle suffered about 25 dollars in damage. In another weekend crash Ray O Davis of RFD 7 Frederick was injured slightly when his car hit a telephone pole after losing brakes. His 1950 Plymouth required about 200 dollars in repairs. Davis was treated for elbow and nose lacerations at Frederick Memorial Hospital and released. No charges were filed in either incident.
