Frederick Telephones Reach Golden Jubilee Milestone
Frederick marks fifty years of telephone service from a three-operator office to a modern center handling about 11 000 local and 800 long distance calls daily. The Visitation Week July 32 to 17 invites residents to see the central office at 230 Last Patrick Street and view the evolution from early switchboards to underground cables and a unified system under Chesapeake and Potomac.
