Boy Confesses Drowning Chum in Summer Creek Outing
A 12-year-old Terre Hill boy confessed to State Police that he caused the drowning of his 13-year-old chum, William Sweligart, during a July 1 dam swim over a money dispute. The boys, including Showalter and Schaffer, swam at Eli Martins dam. Jacobs allegedly refused a loan, seized Sweligart, and let him sink after taking $1.10 from his clothing. Sweligart’s body was found the next day. Jacobs was questioned and later released into his stepbrother’s custody. Investigations continue by the district attorney’s office.
