British Take Key On Somme Front
London reports a British recapture of Contalmaison after night attacks restored the village as a key Somme front position. The offensive also seized trenches and a Mamet Wood while casualties include many officers from Newfoundland. Germans shell the front from Lena to the Belgian coast as French progress in Picardy continues with Hill 97 captured on the plateau near Peronne.
