Local girl Virginia Campous missing since September

Betty Fritz pleads for information about her 14 year old daughter Virginia Campous missing since September. Virginia, about 5 feet 2 inches, 145 pounds with brown eyes and dark brown hair, was a ninth grader at West Frederick and Buckeystown resident. Maryland State Police have checked leads and filed her description with national law enforcement databases. Anyone with information should contact Maryland State Police at 663-3101.

City reported house fire on West Second Street

Fire log for past 24 hours ends 10 a.m. lists multiple calls. At 8:17 p.m. a house fire on 92 West Second Street drew Independents United and Citizens. Brush fire at Edgewood Church Road 4:43 p.m. responded by Independents. Trailer fire at Potomac Flats 8:07 p.m. with Brunswick and Loudoun County, Jefferson, and Brunswick ambulances responding. Transfer of one engine to Chesterbrook Apartments 6:14 p.m. trash fire. Middletown responded.

Baltimore man injured in two vehicle collision on Md 77

Charles J. York, 31, of Edgemere, was hospitalized in poor condition after his car crossed the center line on Md 77 near Catoctin Mountain Park and hit a westbound vehicle. York's passenger Bryan Newman, 18, is in satisfactory condition, with others treated for minor injuries. Charges against York are pending.

Warfield site eyed for county library project

Frederick County planners approved buying an option on the Warfield site for library use at a regular meeting, part of a series of property reviews for public facilities. Other actions included tentative approvals for Crestwood Village phase II and phase III PUDs near Ballenger Creek, and preliminary plans for additional subdivisions and a Pizza Hut at Moyer Shopping Plaza. A Texaco gas station at Md 65 mall entrance was deferred due to traffic concerns. Planning chairman Richard Grossnickle was reelected president. Mary G. Williams was reappointed to a five year term. The commission also reviewed additional acreage for Western Middle School and noted proposed land for future school use.
