Heavy Rain Boosts Frederick County Crops and Streams
Nearly three inches of rain drenched Frederick County over the weekend, lifting drought damaged crops and swelling the Monocacy and Potomac rivers from record lows. Official totals reached 2.86 inches, filling Mountaindale reservoir and spilling Sunday afternoon. Local agent Kenneth E. Shifflet called the rain immeasurably beneficial though he urged more rain for sustained crop health, noting about one inch every 10 days is ideal. Other areas reported varied totals, with Hagerstown 0.58, Westminster 2.0, Cumberland 0.4, Rockville 1.73, Salisbury 2.41 inches, while temperatures were to rise from Sunday’s 69/65 to highs in the low 80s and fair conditions.
