Sidelights on Frederick Names and Local Figures
A long column traces varied spellings of local surnames in Frederick County. It recalls historical roots in Remsberg Ramsburg line, notes old German Bible records, and mentions county families like Radcliff, Shafer, Klein, Johnson, and others. The piece also updates on Gaithersburg growth, a new town manager, and local figures such as Byron Sedgwick and the Storms touring Europe with family anecdotes.

Blood Quota Surpassed For Program In County
The Frederick County blood program completed its first year with 72 pints above the county quota. Eighteen Red Cross bloodmobile visits yielded 2 772 pints, plus five emergency donations at Frederick Memorial Hospital. 556 transfusions were given locally, with 276 pints donated in hospitals across multiple cities and three directed replacements to hospitals in Arizona and Florida. The drive, started February 1962, mobilized industries and clubs into donor groups with detailed participation figures. The 1963 plan maintains a county wide protection and a 2 700 pint quota across 18 visits.
