Nuns May Teach In Civilian Dress In North Dakota
In Bismarck on July 11 Catholic nuns may teach in public schools next fall while wearing civilian clothes to comply with the Anti Garb Act. Church leaders announced the church has no objection to nuns donning secular dress as a way to respect the new law. The act, backed by Protestant clergy, bars public school teachers from wearing garb denoting a religious order. The measure was approved by a vote near 93,660 with about 300 leaders reporting in. Bishop Vincent Van of Burck and Auxiliary Bishop Leo Dworschak of Zo announced the plan for the regular term in cathedrals in the two Grain region.
