Jury exonerates girl's lover in tragic inquest
The coroner's inquest into Alice Crispell's death at Harvey's Lake heard that her lover Herbert Johns admitted he once held a shotgun to her head to enforce good behavior. Letters showed a sordid motive, with Johns denying true love and revealing threats, while authorities debated glove evidence and possible suicide plans. The inquest lifted the cloud of murder but left the county startled by the couple's alleged affair and dangerous acts.
