Lewistown Fire Co. marks 25th anniversary celebration
Lewistown area firefighters celebrated the 25th anniversary of Lewistown Volunteer Fire Co. with more than 80 attendees. Founded in June 1970 by local residents including Mountaindale and Utica, the department opened a new hall in November 1979 after a $65,000 FHA loan and self built sections. Remarks recalled deceased volunteers and highlighted the department’s character and community spirit.

Maryland eyes tripling wilderness protections across state lands
State proposes to nearly triple wildlands acres from 14 638 to an additional 26 255 on state owned lands to shield forests valleys wetlands and scenic views from logging mining and development. Environmentalists back the move while loggers and activists warn some sites are excessive and unnecessary. Gavin Besa and Peter Miller challenge the scope with Garrett County hosting a large share of the proposed areas amid concerns over acid rain and air pollution impacts.
